Introduction
This Quick Reference Guide (QRG) covers the process for cashing up at the end of the day.
Depending on your till’s settings, you may find subtle differences between the process depicted here and how your system works – but most retailers should find it to be accurate.
Till
- Log into the till using your PIN.
- Select Manager Option
Tap the End of session button at the bottom.
If your cash drawer does not auto open, and instead you see an ‘Error’ like the one pictured, then you will need to void some suspended sales first before you can cash up.
- Tap the OK button to close the error message.
- Tap the Transactions button.
A table will appear, listing all of the suspended sales which are still outstanding on this till.
- Tap the VOID button at the right for each of them in turn. They should disappear.
Once they are all removed,
tap the CANCEL button at the bottom right.
- Select Manager Option, then End of session again.
Now, the cash drawer will pop open, and a Session Declaration panel will appear.
- Click into the Remaining Float box at the bottom left.
- Enter how much float money you are finishing the day with there.
Note: Most retailers finish with the same float as they started with, although you don’t necessarily have to.
Do NOT press ENTER on your keyboard afterwards.
Next,
- tap into the Cash GBP(£) box at the top left.
- You now should enter all the rest of the cash in the till – i.e. everything except the float.
Example: if your till contains £300 in total, and you have set £50 of it aside as the float, you should be counting the other £250 here.
This can be done by either,
- simply typing the total amount in to the Cash GBP(£) box.
or,
- working your way down the “Counted” column at the right, entering how many of each note or coin you have.
As you type numbers in, you will see the total cash counted so far appearing in the Cash GBP(£) box at the top left.
Next,
tap into the Cr/Debit Card box, and enter the total amount you have taken on card today (if it’s not already showing there).
If you’ve taken any other methods of payment over the course of the day (e.g. vouchers or cheques), you’ll need to fill in the appropriate boxes for those as well.
After entering all your amounts,
- tap the DECLARE NOW button at the bottom right.
Note: Be careful not to press any DECLARE IN BACKOFFICE buttons, which might be nearby.
A Session Z-reading report will print. Look for the ‘Tender Breakdown’ section, normally found about half way down.
Check the Ovr/Und column. Here it will tell you if you have declared more or less cash or card than the system expected you to.
The Z-reading will also appear on screen.
- Tap the CLOSE button at the bottom right to remove it.
You will now see your Over/Underfigures displayed in a larger table.
To proceed from here,
-
tap OK, END OF DAY.
Note: be careful not to tap OK, CONTINUE.
A second, ‘finalised’ copy of the Z-reading will print. There will be space at the bottom for a signature; consider signing it.
- PRINT or CLOSE
- Enter your PIN number one final time.
- Tap Manager option, then tap the Log off till button.
You will be taken back to the ‘Username / Password’ screen. The till can be left on that screen overnight
Lastly, it’s recommended that you leave the cash drawer open and empty overnight. Your till being visibly empty will deter break-ins.
